In the Beginning
"The beginning and the hereafter………..
The “Bodies in Motion, Bodies at Rest” project was originally conceived by photographer Gareth Brown. The works are produced and shot by Gareth along with considerable input from various members of Blow Up Studios, most notably Liz Mok.
Like many great ideas, the project started in part by accident. Gareth had been interested in shooting personal location imagery of Hong Kong as a counterfoil to his commercial work, but a chance collaboration with Butoh performer Wilson Chik, piqued Gareth’s interest in the possibilities of site-specific dance photography and how it could be utilised to bring life and meaning to the locations that so enthralled him.
Since the first venture into the great outdoors with Wilson, we have been fortunate to work with many great dancers from a variety of different dance genres. We are greatly indebted to their commitment and creativity in helping to shape the project into what we are today.
“Bodies in Motion” is and remains an open area for exploration and collaboration. We welcome contact from dance performers who wish to take part in the project and exhibitors interested to show the works.
